Port Harcourt — The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC Ltd., has affirmed that strategic partnerships and collaboration remain central to unlocking value, achieving sustainability, and driving commercialisation in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, stated this during the 2025 Inaugural Annual Downstream Petroleum Week organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
Ojulari, who was represented by the NNPCL Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mr. Mumuni Dagazau, said Nigeria’s downstream sector is undergoing significant transformation shaped by energy transition, emerging opportunities, and strategic reforms, adding that collaboration among stakeholders was vital to ensuring sustainability.
“The opportunity to create a sustainable economy for today and the future is hinged on supply partnerships, infrastructure co-investments, security collaborations, host community cooperation, and operational alliances,” he said.
“Everyone needs to get involved in the activities that will ultimately create a sustainably promising future for Nigeria.”
The NNPC boss said Africa’s energy demand is projected to grow significantly in the coming years, with Nigeria expected to play a leading role. He emphasised that this growing demand presents both a challenge and an opportunity for coordinated action among industry players, regulators, and investors.
“Nigeria stands at the forefront of this growth trajectory,” Ojulari said. “It calls for collective responsibility and coordinated efforts to harness emerging opportunities and ensure inclusive, long-term sectoral development.”
He explained that NNPC Ltd. remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring consistent fuel supply, competitive pricing, and quality assurance across all its retail outlets nationwide, part of the company’s broader goal to maintain energy security while transitioning to a more sustainable model.
Ojulari commended the National Assembly and the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) for convening the strategic engagement, noting that such platforms are critical for aligning policy direction with commercial realities.
“As a commercial and national energy entity, NNPC Ltd. is deeply committed to fostering stakeholder engagement and advancing collaborative models that promote growth across the entire downstream value chain,” he said.
The event, themed “Celebrating Our Successes, Confronting Our Challenges, and Finding Solutions for the Petroleum Downstream Sector,” brought together key downstream operators, lawmakers, and industry regulators to discuss reforms and opportunities within the sector.
