Dublin, Ireland — As the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) commences its 2024 recruitment exercise, latest report obtained from the state oil firm revealed that its total staff strength reduced by 34 personnel, representing a decline of 0.6 per cent between the first quarter and second quarter of 2024.
Specifically, the NNPCL stated that its total workforce stood at 5,692 persons at the end of the first quarter of 2024 but dropped to 5,658 personnel at the end of the second quarter of 2024.
Giving a breakdown of its total workforce by gender, the NNPCL noted that at the end of the second quarter of 2024, 4,606 staff were males, representing 81.4 per cent of the total, while 1,052 staff were females, representing 18.6 per cent of the total.
In comparison, the NNPC stated that in the first quarter of 2024, 4,632 staff, representing 81.37 per cent, were males, while 1,060 staff, representing 18.73 per cent of its total staff, were females.
Furthermore, the NNPC reported that in the period under review, 156 staff are in the top management cadre, comprising 115 males and 41 females; middle management cadre had 1,051 staff, comprising 820 men and 231 women; senior staff cadre had 4,238 personnel, consisting of 3,471 males and 767 females; while junior staff category had 200 males and 13 females, totalling 213 personnel.
In other words, the NNPCL said it has 213 junior staffers, 4238 senior staff and 1,207 management staff in the quarter under review.
In a further division of its workforce, the NNPC stated that it has one person in its Junior Staff 2 (JS2) category; 212 staff in its JS 1 category; 29 personnel in its senior staff seven (SS7) category; 78 staff in the SS6 category; while SS5, SS4, SS3, SS2 and SS1 cadre had 1,091 staff, 199 staff, 672 staff, 429 staff and 1,740 staff, respectively.
In the Management six cadre (M6), the state oil firm reported that it had 736 personnel; M5 had 315 staff; M4 had 118 staff; while M3, M2 and M1 had 32, five and one personnel, respectively.
In its latest recruitment advertisement announced a few days ago, the NNPC was seeking to employ both fresh graduate and experienced professionals into the supervisory cadre.
The corporation said the successful graduate trainees would be expected to support the implementation of its organisational processes; deliver cost-effective business outcomes; support line managers/supervisors to develop and implement strategic work plans across diverse functions and support delivery of project team assignments.
On the other hand, it said the experienced professionals, who are being recruited into the supervisory cadre and are expected to provide professional and leadership expertise required to achieve NNPC’s business objectives; develop and implement strategies for operational excellence; ensure cost-effectiveness and compliance with statutory regulations in the delivery of the corporation’s business and drive team performance and development.
