Lagos — The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency, NOSDRA, Mr Idris Musa, has stressed the need for synergy in oil spill management.

Musa stated this in a paper he presented at the Nigeria-Cote D’Ivoire Business Round Table Exhibition which took place at the Abuja Chamber of Commerce as part of the ECOWAS Heads of State Summit.

The event had as theme, “Synergy for optimal productivity”.

The NOSDRA boss, who stressed that oil spill response was about collaboration, enumerated the various areas of collaboration to include establishing agreements with neighbouring countries towards equipment movement for response and encouraging regional cooperation among member states of the West African sub-region and the Gulf of Guinea for combating oil spillage and pollution in contiguous waters as well as strengthening the national capacity and regional action to prevent, control, combat and mitigate marine pollution, amongst others.

He affirmed that collaborative and integrated national and regional approaches to oil spill response and management, as well as capacity building, are essential to protect the environment and preserve biodiversity.
