13 March 2015, Lagos – The proposed gas revolution industrial park at Ogidigben Port, Warri, Delta State, South-South may yet just be executed soon enough, as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mallam Habib Abdullahi, has urged all the parties involved to ensure the success of the project in the national interest.
The project, according to Abdullahi, should be of great interest to Nigeria, considering the tremendous economic and social benefits derivable from it when successfully completed.
The NPA boss was speaking at a meeting with officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on the progress so far made on the project in his office at the NPA House, Marina, Lagos.
While he gave an assurance that the NPA would collaborate with the NNPC for the successful execution of the Ogidigben Port Gas Industrial Park project, Abdullahi implored all those involved in it to fast track the process so that appreciable progress can be made before the end of next month.
The NPA boss commended the NNPC for its giant strides on the project, especially in the area of resolving conflicts among the communities where the project is to be sited.
Abdullahi told the delegation that since the NNPC has been able to resolve the concerns, the NPA will work on other areas like dredging and breakwaters construction.
On the NNPC’s request for the size of land for the project, he affirmed that it was a national project and assured that the request will be looked into.
He explained that the NPA would soon conclude consultation on the status of the Ogidigben Port and its mode of operation under the public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement.
Earlier, the Executive Director, Gas and Power of the NNPC, Dr. David Ige, informed the NPA Managing Director that the project will require a lot of land reclamation, adding that its success is dependent on ports and solicited adequate support and collaboration with the NPA.
