08 May 2015, Benin – Crisis is brewing in the nation’s oil sector as staff of Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, in Benin City, Edo State, issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to reverse the alleged sale of one of the country’s priced oil assets, OML 42, to some individuals in the country or they will shut down the entire flow stations in the country.
The workers had earlier protested on Monday within the premises of NPDC on Sapele Road, Benin City, Edo State, before they were dispersed by armed police men.
Following the ultimatum, the workers have cried out over allegation of being threatened by the Managing Director of the company.
The tension in the company heightened last Tuesday, when the staff received a memo to hand over some parts of the assets of the company to a business mogul who has been a contractor to the company. The workers vowed to resist the move.
