Port Harcourt — The newly deployed Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Rivers State, Basil Igwebueze, has affirmed his readiness to prosecute the mandate of the Corps in safeguarding all national assets, especially in protecting oil and gas facilities, power installations and other national infrastructure.

Igwebueze in his inaugural speech at the Rivers State headquarter of the NSCDC in Port Harcourt, announced that his administration would be intelligence driven, saying that a failed security was tantamount to a failed intelligence.

He charged the officers and men of Corps to be dedicated to their assigned duties and remain discipline, noting that lack of communication and indiscipline often leads to misunderstanding in an administrative system.

He applauded the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for giving him the opportunity to serve and pledged to synergize with other security agencies and stakeholders, such as the state government, traditional institutions, civil society, media, faith-based organizations, youth groups, etc, to quell all forms of criminalities in the state.

” I did not come here with any agenda neither do I come with any office aids because I believe in your ability to give maximum support and necessary advice to this new administration so that we can unanimously prosecute the mandate of the Corps in safeguarding all critical national assets and infrastructures.

“Most especially in the areas of protection of oil pipelines, electrical power installations, communication equipment and gadgets, schools, government structures, railway; training, supervision, monitoring and issuing of certificates to private guard companies, disaster management by giving proactive warning against all forms of disaster occurrence and rescuing of victims during emergencies amongst others.

” It is very pertinent for me to thank the Commandant General Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni OFR for this great opportunity to serve and I will never take it for granted.”

Until his deployment as the 14th substantive Rivers State Commandant, Igwebueze was the
Commandant, Special Assignments at the national headquarters of NSCDC in Abuja.
