02 September 2016, Owerrri—The Owerri branch of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, NSE, has called on the Federal Government to venture into other renewable sources of power generation in the country.

The Owerri branch Chairman, Emeka Celestine Ugoanyanwu, stated this during an encounter with Vanguard in Owerri, while advising various authorities concerned in the generation of power in the country to come up with development plans aimed at reviving the sector for the purpose of boosting the economy, even as he called on professionals in the area to support the process. #

“In this part of the world, why are we suffering power outages and shortages when the country has enormous supply of renewable energy ?

“The engineers have to go into renewable energy. The world itself is already solar powered. So we must begin to develop it so that we pay less in fossil fuel that we buy everyday. We have solar all year round, even during rains.

“Why wouldn’t we tap from the natural resources we have, instead of waiting for crude oil whose price has fallen in the international market. In the villages we have no public electricity but we have sun all year round, why must we wait for the National grid? “ he queried.
