Lagos — The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, NDPC, are partnering to address key issues of concerns surrounding data protection and privacy within the Nigerian oil and gas industry.
The Chief Executive Officer of the NUPRC, Engr Gbenga Komolafe, described the partnership as pivotal for ensuring operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and maintaining stakeholder’s trust.
Komolafe who was represented by the Executive Commissioner, Corporate Services and Administration, Dr Kelechi Ofoegbu, made the speech while addressing the NDPC delegation led by the National Commissioner/CEO, Dr Vincent Olatunji, during a courtesy visit to the Commission’s Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
According to Komolafe, NUPRC seeks to establish robust frameworks and protocols tailored to the unique requirements of the Oil and Gas domain. These requirements include, enhanced Data Security Measures with the rapid digitisation of operations in the Oil and Gas sector.
The National Commissioner/CEO of the NDPC, Dr Vincet Olatunji, while briefing the NUPRC Boss emphasised on the need for stringent data protection measures for business to thrive in the Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Sector.
The collaboration according to Dr Vincent signifies a proactive step towards safeguarding the industry’s future amidst evolving technological landscapes and growing cyber threats.
