19 November 2011, Sweetcrude, LAGOS – As the first edition of the Oando Games, Apapa Club gets on underway today, Meka Olowola, Head of Corporate Communication, Oando has said the games would be better than the previous ones as the issue of funds has been laid to rest.

Mr. Olowola made this known at a press parley to usher in the Games. He said the oil company had to show its social responsibility knowing that its major facility is situated in Apapa.

He also looked forward to a thrilling closing ceremony where awards and prizes would be given.

“This partnership (with Apapa Club) started about three years ago when the Squash and Tennis section called on us who we honoured and had a good experience. So when we were contacted this time around to be part of the entire Club’s Games, we had no choice than to oblige it given the relationship with them for the past two to three years.

“Getting along with the club for us was easy because we knew that our major facility is located here and also, members of the club are our client, so we felt we should reciprocate the gesture. We are indeed pleased to be a part of the entire Games and not just a section anymore.

“We expect the Games to be better organized now as one of the major issues of funds has been settled. Also, we expect it to be the forerunner for the forthcoming quadrangular Games in Lagos between the four main clubs in the state. More so, we anticipate a glamorous grand finale come Friday November 25,” Olowola said.

The Games which would be in team and individual sports would have club members competing in Lawn Tennis, Squash, Table Tennis, Darts and Snooker. Others are Scrabble, Chess and Ayo.

Winners in team sport will go home with N50,000 and coveted prizes would be given to individual winners.
