28 July 2014, Awka – As part of efforts to ensure enduring peace and security at communities bordering Anambra State with other states, the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has reached out to his Kogi State counterpart, Idris Wada, towards initiating measures to ensure enduring solution to the incessant attacks on Anambra border communities.

Obiano stated this when he visited the victims attacked by gunmen from Kogi State, at a fishing community of Aguleri-Otu, Anambra East Local Government Area.

Obiano said: “We are working out comprehensive strategy and modalities to entrench lasting peace and check excesses of the miscreants, the attack has nothing to do with the oil producing area as some people claim but an aggression by some misguided persons.”

He enjoined the people of the area to remain calm and not to take laws into their hands as the government was already on top of the situation.

According to some of the victims who spoke when the governor visited them at a private hospital in Onitsha, unknown gunmen invaded the community from Kogi State in the afternoon and started shooting sporadically at fishermen and farmers who were at work.

He confirmed that three persons were killed and eight others sustained various degrees of injuries from the gunshots.

Also, the governor said the Kogi governor had apologised over the unfortunate incident and warned their youths to desist from such unprovoked aggression and directed the  immediate transfer of all the victims to Saint Charles Borromeo Hospital Onitsha, for better treatment, promising that they state government would foot the entire hospital bill.
