Port Harcourt — The Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority, OGFZA, has secured a partnership with the Bayelsa State Government for the development of the Brass Oil and Gas Free Zone, following the approval of a $3.6 billion industrial park and methanol hub by Brass Fertilizer and Petroleum Company Limited, BFPCL.
The partnership for the advancing the Brass Free Zone was secured when Mr. Bamanga Usman Jada, Managing Director and CEO of OGFZA, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to Bayelsa State Governor, Sen. Douye Diri, at the Government House in Yenagoa, the state capital.
The discussions centered around the transformative $3.6bilion project, which is poised to boost the nation’s industrial output, create massive employment opportunities, and foster technology transfer.
Speaking about the project, Jada highlighted its potential impact on the Nigerian economy.
He stated, “The project is transformative and is expected to boost the nation’s industrial output and generate huge employment opportunities as well as technology transfer.”
He also outlined the key features of the development, including a dedicated gas processing facility capable of producing 340 million standard cubic feet of gas daily, a 36km pipeline, a methanol plant, an SBA export jetty, a construction jetty, and a residential area.
Jada also emphasized OGFZA’s role in attracting both local and international investments into Nigeria’s oil and gas free zones, stressing the Authority’s mandate to provide a conducive environment for such investments.
“We are mandated to attract investors into the nation’s oil and gas free zones while ensuring that the environment is conducive for them to thrive,” he said.
He further aligned the project with the broader economic agenda of President Bola Tinubu, noting that it falls in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to accelerate economic growth and development across the country.
Responding, Governor Douye Diri, expressed full support for the project and assured the OGFZA delegation of his commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the Brass Oil and Gas Free Zone.
“We will give all the necessary support to the Authority to ensure that the zone thrives,” Diri said, underscoring the state government’s readiness to collaborate on making the project a success.
