Port Harcourt — The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, has said that over 15,000 Nigerians have been trained in various technical and managerial skills required for the oil and gas industry.
The Board said the training programs cut across welding, marine operations, pipefitting, project management, and design engineering, among other competencies.
Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, speaking in Port Harcourt recently, described human capacity development as the cornerstone of local content implementation.
“Local content is not just about contracts; it is about people. We have equipped more than 15,000 Nigerians with industry-relevant skills, and many of them are now gainfully employed in major projects,” he said.
Ogbe, speaking through Mr. Omomehin Ajimajiye, Acting General Manager, Midstream Monitoring and Evaluation, explained that the training programs were executed in partnership with oil companies, training institutes, and international development partners.
He further noted that the Board ensures that training is demand-driven and tailored to actual industry needs, rather than generic skill acquisition.
“Every training we sponsor is linked to available projects or opportunities. We train people for jobs, not just for certificates,” Ogbe emphasized.
