07 October 2013, Port Harcourt – The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASAN, has decried the fast-rate at which the prospects of the Nigeria’s Oil sector are declining despite the fact that it remains the mainstay of the nation’s economy.
This is as the union has elected new officials to pilot its affairs in the Nigerian Agip Oil Company, NAOC, service contract branch at Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni local government area of Rivers State.
President of PENGASSAN, Comrade Babatunde Ogun spoke on Saturday in Port Harcourt, at the 2013 annual workshop, organised by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) branch of the union, with the theme: “Emerging Trends in Union-Management Relationship.”
Ogun said: “The little example we can vividly see is the fast rate at which the prospects of petroleum sector have been declining despite the fact that the industry remains the mainstay of the economy.
The PENGASSAN President, who was represented by the national industrial relations officer of the union, Comrade Hyginus Chika Onuegbu, stated that professional services through third party and outsourcing relationship were dominating regular employment.
Meanwhile, the newly elected chairman of the NAOC service contract branch of PENGASSAN, Comrade Enyinwa Goodluck has assured that his administration would not betray the confidence reposed in them by members of the union.
Enyinwa, who said this while speaking shortly after his inauguration at Omoku, promised to work with the employers to evolve policies and programmes that would benefit both the workers and the management.
