Kunle Kalejaye 18 November 2015, Sweetcrude, Lagos – The Inspector General of Police Special Task Force on Pipeline Vandalism has arrested a 35-year old suspected vandal, Mr. Philip Isaac, in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State while transporting 8,500 litres of stolen premium motor spirit also known as petrol.
The alleged stolen product which was loaded in 50 litres of jerry cans was being transported by the suspect in a Volvo truck with registration number XU819KSF, but he was intercepted by the police after he had a minor accident along Shagamu – Ore expressway.
Police sources said the product was stolen from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, pipeline in Arepo, Ogun State.
When men of the IGP Task Force on Pipeline Vandalism got to the scene of the accident, Mr. Isaac was arrested and he later confessed to have obtained the product from the NNPC pipeline in Arepo.
In his confessional statement, he said: “I am driver and I have been driving for five years. I am the owner of the vehicle I used in conveying the product. I normally carry planks with my truck in Ijebu Ode. It was one Nabancy who called me to help him carry groundnut oil.
“I met Nabancy in our garage in Ijebu Ode some months ago when he came to look for a vehicle but during that period my vehicle was in a bad shape. He promised to call me when I repair my truck.
“Two days before I was arrested, he called me and asked that I should meet him at Arepo in Ogun State,” he said, adding that it was there the product was loaded on his truck.
