18 April 2013, Lagos – A detachment of the Inspector-General of Police Special Task Force on Pipeline vandalism has swooped on nine jetties in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, used by pipeline vandals to transport petroleum products stolen from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, pipeline in Arepo, Ogun State.
Four people were arrested while about 2,000 litres of petroleum products in forty 50 litre jerrycans were recovered by the police when they attacked the area.
One of the arrested suspects, who are all residents of Kadoko Konu area of Ikorodu, was found to be an informant to the task force.
The suspects had built their houses very close to the creeks with each of the houses having its own jetty linking to Arepo. The Police found seven canoes allegedly used by the vandals in convey the products berthed at the jetties.
There was also a shrine behind one of the building where the vandals usually performed sacrifices before going out for operation. Charms, brooms, candles and different colours of threads were found in the shrine.
