    15 December 2017, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt —
The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHED, has warned its customers against falling for fraudulent activities perpetrated by prepaid meter installation contractors, including its staff in the state.

In a statement by the DisCo on Thursday, it disclosed that some prepaid meters contractors and staff were asking for money from customers to separate buildings or flats with joint wiring before installing their meters.

According to the company, customers should contract such jobs to their personal electricians instead of giving money to prepaid meter contractors, adding that prepaid meters are free.

“Dear customers, some contractors or staff installing prepaid meters are requesting for some amount of money to separate buildings or flats with joint wiring before installing the meters. Please use your electrician to do this, do not give out money to anyone. Pre-paid Meters remain free”.
