10 July 2014, Abuja – Amidst protests, the leaders of the six geo political zones at the national conference that deliberated on the controversial resource control and power devolution have recommended that the 13 percent resource control be increased to 18 percent, while another five percent should be reserved for the development of solid minerals in Nigeria.
The recommendations, especially the five percent for the rehabilitation of insurgent ravaged areas drew the anger of the delegates from South, who said that the recommendations would not be allowed to stand.
This was the outcome of the Elders Committee of the Six Geo Political Zones committee led by General Ikechukwu and Prof Ibrahim Agboola Gambari that deliberated on the controversial issues, including derivation and devolution of power.
The committee also said that another five percent should be reserved for the rehabilitation of the insurgency ravaged northeast, northwest and north central zones of the country.
Deliberations on the recommendations of the Committee Report on Power Devolution were postponed to enable the committee of elders from the six geo political zones to agree on the areas of controversy.
