11 February 2019, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt — In continuation of military Exercise Python Dance, the Nigerian Army Sixth Division, Port Harcourt, says it has destroyed six illegal refineries in Bille, Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The Nigerian Army Also said it has neutralized two most wanted kidnappers in Southern Ijaw LGA in Bayelsa State, as well as clamped down on kidnappers and armed robbers terrorizing Ahoada-West axis of the East-West road.
Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Aminu Iliyasu, said troops currently are conducting aggressive confidence building and anti-pipeline vandalism patrols in its area of responsibility.
Iliyasu explained that the destruction of the six illegal refineries and the clampdown on kidnappers and armed robbery suspects in Bayelsa and Rivers states took place between 5th and 6th February 2019.

“Troops deployed to checkmate anti illegal oil bunkering activities at the 29 Battalion Tactical Headquarters, Bille in Degema LGA Rivers State in conjunction with other security agencies on February 5th, 2019, discovered and destroyed six illegal refineries in the area.
“The team also impounded an empty barge suspected to be used in carrying illegally refined products around the area.
“Additionally, troops of 16 Brigade Nigerian Army in collaboration with other security agencies in Bayelsa State has continued to conduct aggressive confidence building and anti-pipeline vandalism patrols in Yenagoa and other flashpoints around the environs to further deny criminal elements freedom of action.”
Iliyasu also said troops conducted a sting operation was following an intelligence report on the criminal activities of armed robbers and kidnappers in Ahoada West and along the East-West Road and its environs which has r disrupted the free flow of activities in the area.
“In continuation of Exercise Python Dance III in 6 Division Area of Responsibility, troops of 29 Battalion Port Harcourt on 5th February 2019 clamped down on suspected armed robbers/kidnappers in Ukpelede community, Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.
“The suspected kidnappers who on sighting the troops fired frantically and scampered for their lives were pursued by the gallant troops. Consequently, one of the kidnappers was gunned down while others fled into the nearby bush.
“Items recovered during the operation include; One Motorcycle, Twelve live Cartridges, One cult-like Axe, One Cutlass, Two Masks, and One Nokia phone. Four civilian victims were also rescued in the course of the operation.
“Body of the gunned down suspected kidnapper, four rescued civilians and the items recovered have since been handed over to the appropriate authority.

“In a similar vein, troops of 16 Brigade Nigerian Army conducted a successful raid operation on 6th February 2019 in Gbaraun community of Southern Ijaw, where two most wanted criminals, Napoleon aka Abala 2ic and Tompolo’s boat driver believed to be the masterminds of many kidnappings and cult related killings in Bayelsa State were neutralized.
“During the operation, two AK 47 rifles were recovered. Other items recovered include; One pump Action Gun, One locally made gun, 57 rounds of 7.62mm special, 30 rounds of 5.56mm, three live cartridges, two empty AK 47 magazines, and one fiber boat.”
