11 August 2014, News – Bombs set off at Colombian facility close to Venezuelan border but no injuries, report says
Armed rebels attacked an oilfield in northern Colombia late last week, detonating explosives and damaging some infrastructure, state player Ecopetrol said.
A gang of armed men approached workers on the Tibu field close to the Venezuelan border on Friday and threatened them, the BBC reported on its website.
The men detonated explosives and damaged part of the facility, Ecopetrol said, adding that there were no injuries.
The report made no mention of a disruption to production at the field, which has been producing since 1944.
In 2006 Ecopetrol and Brazil’s Petrobras signed an agreement to develop the field, aiming for 100 million barrels in reserves and to increase production from 1800 barrels per day to 15,000 bpd.
Ecopetrol has operated the field since 1971, taking full control in 1984.
The state-owned oil player routinely sees its fields and pipeline infrastructure attacked by rebels.
