    Rep seeks revamping of ALSCON, oil & gas academy in A/Ibom

    Port Harcourt — The member representing Etinan/Nsit-Ibom/Nsit-Ubium Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Onofiok Luke, has promised to ensure that the Aluminum Smelting Company of Nigeria, ALSCON is revitalized and put back to business, if elected as the next governor of Akwa Ibom State.

    Luke said his administration will do everything possible to ensure the restart of ALSCON in Ikot Abasi, and ensure it resumes production to create employment for youths in the state.

    The lawmaker spoke while addressing the executives, stakeholders and his party members at a consultative visit Ikot Abasi and Mkpat Enin chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party.

    He assured that his administration will harness the tourism potentials in the area by developing and encourage private investors to partner in the development of the jetties and other infrastructure along the beach fronts, creeks and the coastline to boost the state’s economy.

    “My administration, when voted on board will look into and address the long-standing grievances between Ibom Power Company and Ikpa Ibekwe Clan which plays host to the company and surrounding villages.”

    “When given the mandate, we will upgrade and expand the Oil and Gas Academy at Nyadiong, Mkpat Enin LGA, to train some of the manpower needs for Ibom Deep Seaport.”

    The lawmaker further assured to bring government closer to the people, without exempting those in undeveloped communities, saying that it was part of his plans to continuously make working visits to communities to have a first hand understanding of their challenges.
