    07 October 2017, Sweetcrude, Lagos —
THE House Committee on Marine Safety, Education and Administration, has called on Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, to submit its debt profile with a view to ascertain how much exactly the debt being owed.

Speaking at the just concluded stakeholders’ interactive forum organised by NIMASA, Chairman of the Committee Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago said that it was very interested in the agency debt issue.

Bago further disclosed that Committee wants to ensure that whoever is contracted to help NIMASA recover its debt must be a trusted firm with pedigree.

In other countries, the issue of debt recovery is given to capable hands and we will ensure that only tested firms are contracted to help NIMASA recover its debts.

Meanwhile, the National President of the National Council of the Managing Director of Licensed Customs Agents, NCMDLCA, Lucky Amiwero has called for the probe of the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund with a view to getting the true position of the fund.

He said that past managements had toyed with the fund to the detriment of local shipping operators who are supposed to be the major beneficiaries.

He explained that if the probe was not carried and possible disbursement effected, the fund may go into funding political ambitions of politicians.
