Port Harcourt — The Rivers State Government on Thursday announced the arrival of vessels laden with Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as fuel, at the Port Harcourt depot of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

Rivers State Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Dr. Peter Medee, assured that between now and in the next 48hours, products will be discharged into the system for loading to commence

Medee called on petrol marketers in the state to reduce their price, so that they will not be cut off with the surplus product which has entered the state, warning that his ministry will not allow any filling station to sell above N165 per litre, once loading and distribution commence.

“As at today, we got report that the vessel that we have been expecting has finally landed in the Port Harcourt depot of NNPC.

“The vessel that has landed, we are very happy that in the next one or two days, products will be discharged into the system and once the products are discharged, then loading will commenced.

“Once loading commences, it means that we’re going to have surplus products in the state, and once we have surplus products, everyone will be happy.”

The Commissioner also charged cautioned the residence of the state against panic buying of PMS, assuring that the products will be evenly distributed to consumers.

“However, I am appealing to marketers to begin to reduce their price because if they don’t, they will be cut off with surplus supply, which would affect the products they may have sourced at higher price.

“So the better for them to reduce the price and sell them off, the better for them. Because once we have surplus products, we will not allow anyone sell above 165per litre.”
