Port Harcourt — The governorship candidate of the African Action Congress in Rivers State, Dr. Joseph Obele, has said that when elected, he will remodel artisanal refining activities to make it more legitimate enterprise in order to curb fuel scarcity.

This is as Rivers State and the country at large, in the last one year has continued to experience fuel scarcity and hike in the pump price of premium motor spirit commonly known has fuel.

Obele who is also the Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria in Rivers State, said it was quite unfortunate that Nigerians have been subjected to severe pains of fuel scarcity for a long time now, assuring that he will set up micro refineries in the state.

According to him, the micro refineries will be regulated by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and other regulators, while crude oil will be bought directly from NNPC Ltd.

“The abandoned Kpofire business will be reformed to make it legitimate and not illegal; and we will apply to buy crude from PPMC, and the facility duly regulated by NMDPRA and other regulators.

“Our people will get jobs when these micro refineries will be set up in the state.

“Any other state can experience fuel scarcity but under my reign as River State Governor, there will be no fuel scarcity in this state, we will be exporting fuel to other states in Nigeria.”
