Mkpoikana Udoma 25 March 2016, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt – The Rivers State government has commiserated with the Nigerian Army over the recent killing of three soldiers by suspected sea pirates.
Recall that three soldiers, including a major were found dead in the waterways of Degema Local Government Area, two days to last Saturday’s controversial legislative rerun elections in the state.
Speaking when he paid a condolence visit to the 2 Amphibious Brigade in Port Harcourt, Governor Nyesom Wike said that the death of the military personnel while providing security was regrettable.
Wike urged the Nigerian Army to ensure that those responsible for the death of the military personnel were brought to justice.
The governor further assured that the state government will continue to provide logistics support for the Army to carry out their functions of protecting the people.
He announced that the state government will participate in the burial of the personnel and also take care of their dependants.
The commander of the 2 Amphibious Brigade, Brig. Gen. Stephenson Olabanji, in response, commended the governor for sharing the grief of the Nigerian Army, and reiterated that those responsible for the death of the military personnel will be brought to justice.
Olabanji explained that two suspects have already been arrested.
