13 August 2013, Lagos – Oil giant Royal Dutch Shell has inaugurated the Nigerian version of its ‘Let’s Go’ global advertising campaign. The oil company said the campaign was aimed at sharing its goal of being “the most competitive and innovative energy company.”
Chairman, Shell Companies in Nigeria, and Managing Director, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, Mr. Mutiu Sunmonu, who inaugurated the campaign in Lagos recently, said it was intended to demonstrate the company’s contribution towards a better future for Nigeria and its people.
“Shell’s messages are built around gas, health, education and job creation, and we believe these ‘life’ issues will enable Nigerians to relate better to the challenges of a secure energy future,” he said.
The campaign, according to Sunmonu, was the first Shell advertising of its type in Nigeria since the corporate identity campaign started about a decade and a half ago. Aside from country-specific themes, the Shell boss said the campaign was also Nigerian content compliant.
The inauguration of the campaign was also used to formally introduce in the country the 2013 edition of the Shell in Nigeria Briefing Notes. The notes covered 13 subject areas ranging from social investments and economic contributions to deepwater exploration and sustainable achievements.
Sunmonu said: “It may interest you to know that Shell companies in Nigeria operate one of the biggest corporate social investments. In 2012, SPDC and SNEPCo directly invested $103.2 million towards addressing social and economic development challenges in the Niger Delta.
“In addition, Shell operations in 2012 contributed over $178 million to the Niger Delta Development Commission as required by law.”
He said the oil company had also developed a coffee table book on its LiveWire programme, which was inaugurated internationally in 1982, with the Nigerian version coming a year later.
