Shell on track for July 15 restart of Norway’s Nyhamna gas terminal

Oslo — Shell is on track to restart its Norwegian Nyhamna gas processing plant on July 15, which has been shut down since mid-May, the company said on Wednesday.

In June, Shell extended a regular maintenance outage at Nyhamna by almost four weeks to July 15 due to a problem with the facility’s cooling system.

“The cooling system has been cleaned and normalised,” a spokesperson for Shell said.

The cooling system, where Shell had detected hydrogen formation, had been drained, allowing planned maintenance work to continue.

Nyhamna processes gas from the Ormen Lange and Aasta Hansteen fields, with the outage cutting 79.8 million cubic metres (mcm) of export capacity per day from the plant.
