Shell reopens damaged pipeline in Nigeria

17 November 2012, Sweetcrude, LAGOS — THE Royal Dutch Shell says it has reopened a pipeline in the oil-rich southern delta and has lifted a month-old production warning on its supplies to Nigeria’s liquefied natural gas plant.

A Shell spokesman disclosed Friday that Shell’s Nigerian subsidiary had lifted a “force majeure” on supply to the plant on Nov. 8. The term is used when an oil company cannot cover the promised supply from the field.

Precious Okolobo said the decision to lift the warning came after it repaired the Trans Niger pipeline which was hit by “crude theft and flooding.”

The oil giant issued the warning on October 3.

The Trans Niger pipeline is a major conduit for Shell through Nigeria’s oil-rich region.
