    SNEPCO lifts old people’s home in Lagos

    Customers fuel up at a Shell gas station in Westminster13 December 2013, Lagos – As parts of its giving back initiatives, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Productivity Company SNEPCO, a subsidiary of Shell Petroleum has inaugurated a renovated part of the Old People’s Home, located in Yaba area of Lagos.

    According to the company, it embarked on the project to contribute to the wellbeing of the old men and women living in the home.

    Speaking at the event which coincided with the organisation’s end of the year party held within the premises, the managing director of the company, Mr. Chike Onebekwe, said the project was not the first project handled by the company and pointed out that the company had last year, donated a 30KVA generator for the home.

    On what informed the renovation of the six rooms, which were handed over to the managers of the home, the MD simply said it was renovated to accommodate more inmates and give the old people a conducive environment to live.

    He said; “We are pleased to identify with children with special needs and senior citizens as part of our social investments portfolio which cuts across health, education and social services. Just recently, SNEPCO identified with children with special needs at Modupe Cole Memorial Childcare, Lagos by expanding and equipping a physiotherapy unit. And as it is being done here today, we were in Modupe Cole last year for the end of the year party.”

    Speaking further, he disclosed that the company would also provide an alternative source of electricity through inverter and equip the renovated rooms, adding that the organisation has also constructed twenty eight ICT centres in various Secondary Schools across Nigeria.

    He said: “We are working to deploy Health Straightening system (HSS) at Hospitals at Iyi Enu (Anambra State), Ogijo (Ogun State) and Lapai community (Niger State. The HSS will help to improve service delivery, manpower, knowledge management, procurement, financial management and development of physical infrastructure”.

    The managing director however stated that SNEPCO executed the various CSR project with -Esso, NAE & TEPNG its co-ventures, under the OML118 Production Sharing Contract (PSC) with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as the license holder.

    Reacting to the donation, Director, Social Welfare Department, Office of Youth and Social development in Lagos State, Musbau Abdulahi, commended the organisation and urged other corporate organisations to emulate the CSR gesture.
