Port Harcourt — Massive oil spills from a facility operated by an indigenous oil firm, Frontier Oil Limited, has rocked Uqua Isi Edoho community in Esit Eket LGA, Akwa Ibom State, devastating the environment.
Frontier Oil Limited, the operator of Uquo Field, a marginal onshore field within OML13 in Akwa Ibom State, was awarded the field in February 2003 as part of the Federal Government’s marginal field programme.
The ongoing oil spills which became noticeable yesterday, according to the locals, is oozing out from a newly drilled oil well in the community by Frontier Oil Limited.
Although what caused the spills has not yet been ascertain, however, members of Uqua Isi Edoho community have been scooping the spilt crude into cans and kegs, as the oil runs like water across the community.
Meanwhile, the management of Frontier Oil Limited is yet to comment on the development as at the time of filing this report.
