24 July 2014, News Wires – Statoil is reported to be in dialogue with the authorities over an “unspecified terror threat” against Norway disclosed by the country’s police security service (PST) on Thursday.
PST revealed it had reliable information that a terror attack could take place “within the next few days”, but could not specify the precise timing and location, and that individuals with links to extreme Islamic groups operating in Syria are suspected to be behind the possible action.
Potential targets could be Norwegian companies, educational institutions or research bodies, according to the service’s assessment of the terror threat.
The police are stepping up security at airports, train stations and border crossings with deployment of armed personnel to counter the threat, local media reported.
A spokesman for state-owned Statoil told publication E24 the company had a “good ongoing dialogue” with the authorities covering security issues and was “monitoring the situation closely”.
He declined to disclose though whether the company was taking any special measures related to the threat, saying this could compromise its security.
Statoil is set to take delivery in Norway at the weekend of the topsides for its Valemon platform, which is due to arrive off the west coast city of Bergen after sailaway last month from South Korean yard Samsung Heavy Industries.
