24 September 2014, Lagos – President of European Commission, Jose Barroso, said the European Union would assist developing countries with $3.85 billion in the next seven years to promote the development of sustainable energy.
Barroso made the disclosure in New York on Tuesday, saying the support, which would be to the most vulnerable parts of the global community, had become imperative for better development.
He then encouraged European leaders to agree on an ambitious proposal by the EU that targetted reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 40 per cent, compared with 1990 levels by 2030 and increase the output of renewable energy at least 27 per cent.
