The Niger state Governor decried the poor supply of electricity to the state, even as he assured the electricity firm that the state government will pay what it owes the company if they can increase the 10 megawatts currently allocated to the state by another 10 megawatts.
Dramatic collapses are not altogether strange in the Nigerian power sector, but nothing matches the number of system failures that have occurred in the sector over the past few months, throwing large swathes of the country into darkness every now and then.
NERC had said that the Discos should publish a schedule of those whom they would meter to enable the public keep track of metered customers in the wake of a hiked tariff from February 2016.
KEDC said that in the last six months, eleven transformers were burnt and investigation by the company revealed that some customers, obviously for selfish reason, connects power supply from two different transformers, thereby causing short-circuit in the transformers.
The Company stressed that when there is limited power available to it, load shedding to its customers in the FCT as well as other states in the company’s franchise area become inevitable.
NERC in the order compelled AEDC to compensate the family, saying that the Disco was responsible for the untimely death of the eight-year-old.
