He underscored the importance of the Egina project to the Nigerian economy, particularly the addition of 200,000 barrels to the country’s daily crude oil production. Egina will also contribute to the Federal Government’s commitment to address production decline and shore up national revenue.
He confirmed that in-country integration of the FPSO and fabrication of six modules of the vessel created 5000 direct jobs and 5000 indirect jobs. Increased domiciliation of future FPSO projects through the fabrication of more modules would create additional jobs, estimated to reach 30,000, he added.
He stressed that the project would utilize capacities and facilities that were developed on past project charged the promoters to exceed the Nigerian Content performance achieved on the Egina deep water project, including the partial integration and fabrication of the Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) platform.
Wabote said since the legislation came into effect, the oil and gas industry has recorded significant Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in pipe mill and growth in Nigeria- owned marine vessels.
He noted that the Board learnt lessons from the evaluation and compliance monitoring carried out on Total’s Egina deep water project and intends to build on those lessons on the Zabazaba and Etan deep water project.
