Akah noted that, “The greatest problem we have today is that there is a high level of collection inefficiency by the Discos. Regrettably, while the report from the Discos show a certain level of collection inefficiency, the same report from the MO and NBET show that the Discos are unfairly withholding close to two-third of the total revenue collected from the electricity market.

He noted that the Discos have irrespective of their excuses, failed to also tell Nigerians that they have mostly refused to submit their annual statement of accounts to the NERC as required by the reform law, as well as frustrated attempts by NERC to activate their pacts in the Transitional Electricity Market (TEM) which should bind them to objective service delivery.

“The House was also concerned that the lofty goals of privatisation was marred by the sale of the sector to preferred bidders that could not pay the bid value on the sale, instead the BPE encouraged the deferment of payment and restructuring of payment terms in contravention of bidding rules to the disadvantage of other bidders.”
