Osinbajo signed the budget at about 4:41pm on Monday inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja in the presence of the principal officers of the National Assembly, presidential aides and other top government officials.

In the motion, Yunusa said that the rising prices of different brands of cement were without consideration of the negative implications it would have on the building industry.
“There is no law today that compels government to increase salaries or review wages. It took many years for government and labour to agree on what we have as a minimum wage of N18,000 today. Other countries have a periodic review of wages embedded in their laws, and workers can actually plan and look up to the review.”
“Also note that the Nigerian Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (NEITI), in its 2014 Nigerian oil and gas report, disclosed that in 2008, the Federal government, in its fiscal regime for the petroleum sector, set a penalty of $3.5 per 1000 SCF of gas flared by oil companies, observing, however that the companies have refused to comply with the directive.”
According to Igbokwe, the committee is studying the various oral and written submissions and would soon come up with a report to the House that would justify or condemn the decision of Federal Government in increasing prices of petroleum products.
“It is our expectation that this conference will address how to redeem our pride from our policy, retrieve insecurity from our restive waters, fish our profit from our seas and sail unwavering to our goals. We cannot allow our international partners to set agenda and champion our maritime cause for us. Africa’s seas should contribute to economic and environmental security and improve policies for ocean governance.”
The Speaker said the National Assembly’s interest in investigating the sector stemmed from a deliberate effort to cleanse the industry of the rot which had become the hallmark of its existence over the years.
“We have other issues like the Ministerial (names) we are going to work on and the amnesty we will soon work on. We have the budget that is more important, we have INEC, we have PIB, we have so many things and I think it is a mixture of all that that should guide us. So, don’t let us overheat the polity.”
Meanwhile, the Senate on Tuesday gave all standing committees one week to present and defend reports of the 2017 Budget of Ministries, Agencies and Departments (MDAs) under them before the Committee on Appropriation.
According to the lawmaker, rising cost of kerosene has forced most Nigerians to depend now on liquefied petroleum gas for cooking, with retail prices of gas rising from N2,500 for 12.5kg to over N5,500. He said that kerosene, which was the only oil product accessible to poor Nigerians in the rural areas, had become so expensive that a litre now sold at between N400 and N450.
