The minister’s concern is sequel to the rising spate of electrocutions cases, especially as recently reported on locations in Eko and Abuja Discos, although the families were compensated in record time.
The minister stated that federal government is increasingly looking into alternative resources including coal, solar and biomass for power generation in efforts to achieve national energy security.
Fashola noted that continuous vandalism of gas pipelines and infrastructure across the country had forced government to explore other alternative sources of energy.
“The projects to be completed by NPDC will improve gas supply to power plants over the next few months through September 30 2016 and it is estimated that the increase in gas supply to power plants will increase generation capacity by approximately 2000 MW by the middle of 2017,” said Hakeem Bello, special adviser to the minister on communications
While reiterating the fact that the case is before a competent court of law with judgement soon to be delivered on the matter, Adebiyi said, “The increment is in violation of the enabling Act, for instance Section 76(2) which allows only licencees (Gencos, Discos) who are efficient to recover capital loss or bring increment.
