“Chronic vandalism has crippled oil and gas pipelines, creating gas shortages at power plants. Underinvestment in maintenance and infrastructure has constrained our transmission grid. Finally, high collection and commercial losses have impacted the financial viability of the privatised distribution companies.”
It added that, employing efficient power generation technologies, swifter execution of power projects with maintenance and replacement of failing infrastructure were other recommendations that could help to achieve effective growth of the sector.

He attributed the drop in generation to the attack launched against pipeline facilities belonging to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) on Jan. 17 around Ughelli in Delta State.
According to the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) operational report for Jan. 4, the power sector hit a peak generation of 4,959 megawatts as against 3,321 megawatts recorded in Dec. 2.
Meanwhile, in its bid to tackle the paucity of funds in the power sector after a court litigation stalled efforts at increasing its tariff, the Ministry is now brainstorming on other ways of raising revenue for the sector.
