The establishment of the fund was aimed at supporting the ministry’s policy framework, developing the sector and providing necessary administrative management of the fund in the following ways: the development of both human and physical capacity in the sector; funding for geoscientific data gathering, storage and retrieval to meet the needs of the private sector.

ashola noted that five out of the 60 interventions plans under the Economic Recovery and Growth Programme (ERGP) launched last week by President Buhari were related to power supply, stressing that with the private sector controlling the power sector, the role of the government now was policy and coordination, and creating enabling business environment for the investors to deliver.
“So, the government should ensure that the benchmark for all employers is made as a law so that everybody in the country is carried along irrespective of the number of persons employed. We also hope that the committee will look into the idea being canvassed that minimum wage should not only be for workers in organisation of 50 staff and above.”
Ozo-Eson said, “For us, what is important is that the implementation should be done. When we looked at the plan, we had some issues with it and when we met with the Minister of Budget and Planning over the plan, we stated our observations.”
The minister said, “The council enthusiastically approved these facilities which are on long term, meaning that the DBN will be able to lend to our MSMEs over much longer periods and at much lower rates. So the impact on the SMEs will be quite considerable.”
The governor explained that President Buhari has given the government’s commitment and the need to engage the ministers of finance, budget and national planning and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to work out the technical details for the Ministry of Agriculture to make a presentation to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and to the National Assembly for final approval.
