Port Harcourt — The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, is making significant strides to improve power supply across Nigeria, commissioning new transformers that promise to boost electricity reliability and foster economic growth.

This nationwide expansion, backed by a collaboration with the World Bank, is set to power businesses, enhance industrial productivity, and elevate quality of life in several key regions.

Between December 12 and 23, 2024, TCN commissioned several critical transformers, beginning with a 60MVA transformer at the Aba Transmission Substation in Port Harcourt region.

The new transformer increased the substation’s capacity from 158MW to 206MW, ensuring that Aba Power Limited can deliver more bulk power to Aba Town and surrounding areas, benefiting local industries, commercial businesses, and residential consumers alike.

Similarly, a 75MVA transformer was commissioned at the Onitsha Transmission Substation in Enugu region adding an essential 60MW to the grid. This expansion enhances power stability for Enugu DisCo, supporting commercial and industrial activities in the region.

Meanwhile, in Bauchi region, a 60MVA transformer was installed at the Potiskum Transmission Substation in Yobe State, further improving power distribution for surrounding areas like Azare, Fika, Geidam and Damagum.

The Lagos region also saw a significant upgrade with a 100MVA transformer added at the Isolo Transmission Substation, raising the substation’s capacity from 120MVA to 220MVA, ensuring an additional 80MW is available for key Lagos districts such as Ilasa, Mushin, Idi-Araba, Idi-Oro, Army Cantonment, etc.
