Port Harcourt — Akwa Ibom State and its environs were plunged into darkness for three days following the collapse of the Aba/Itu 132kV Transmission Line, but electricity has now been restored, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has confirmed.
The blackout, which began last Saturday, was caused by a line fault that forced the tripping of the transmission line supplying bulk electricity to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHED.
In a statement signed by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company said its engineers worked tirelessly to trace and fix the fault before supply was restored around on Tuesday night.
“Bulk power supply has been restored through our Aba/Itu 132kV Transmission Line,” the statement read.
TCN explained that its line engineers had to patrol the entire stretch of the transmission line before the fault could be located and cleared.
“Our line engineers successfully located and cleared the fault and also restored bulk supply through the line,” the statement added.
The restoration has enabled PHED to resume the offtake of power for onward distribution to homes and businesses in Akwa Ibom State, easing days of blackout that disrupted economic and social activities.
“We appreciate the understanding and patience of PHEDC’s customers who were affected during the period of power interruption,” TCN noted.
The incident highlights the fragility of the power infrastructure in the region, as many communities and businesses were left stranded without electricity for days.
