Port Harcourt — As the world gradually moves away from fossil fuels to renewable energy, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Mr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, has affirmed Nigeria’s commitment to using gas a transition fuel.
To this end, Ekpo said Nigeria would leverage on its proven gas reserves to become the key player in global energy transition and a regional powerhouse for gas processing and industrialization.
The Minister who spoke at the Nigeria International Energy Summit recently, assured that President Bola Tinubu administration remains fully committed to creating an enabling environment for the growth and development of the gas sector.
He said, “Gas is not a component but a cornerstone in navigating the challenges and opportunities in the new energy world order.
“With our proven gas reserves, Nigeria has no business with energy poverty; in our transition to a sustainable energy future, Nigeria has chosen gas as our transition fuel, facilitating the shift from conventional to new and renewable energy sources.
“With fewer carbon footprint, natural gas aligns with global climate objectives while providing solutions for our energy needs.
“This administration is fully committed to creating an environment that enables the growth of the gas sector, implementing policies and regulatory frameworks, investment promotion, and ensuring sustainability. The private sector is welcome onboard as we aim to emerge as key players on the global stage.”
