29 December 2016, Lagos – – Total Nigeria Plc has announced the conclusion of its skills acquisition programme in Makera and Kakuri districts of Kaduna State, where already some youths have been empowered.
It said the packs were presented during a ceremony held at Total Nigeria Lubricant Blending Plant, Kaduna.
It said the youths were trained in vocations of their choice, such as welding and fabrication, fish and crop farming, fashion designing, computer studies, furniture making and hair dressing.
The company said the youths were screened and selected for training placements in certified training centres, adding that training materials and allowances were given to the beneficiaries and their trainers to ensure they were well-equipped with the necessary learning tools.
It said close monitoring by the Stakeholders Consultative Committee, which comprised the community leaders and representatives as well as Total Nigeria, ensured that beneficiaries remained committed to successfully completing their training.
According to the statement, the programme has since its inception in 2008 graduated 80 youths in Kaduna State.
Representing the Managing Director, Jean-Philippe Torres, at the event, the Corporate Affairs Manager, Albert Mabuyaku, presented to the audience 10 graduating youths and 10 newly selected trainees for 2016.
Mabuyaku, said, “Despite the current tough economic situation, we had to go the extra mile to ensure that these starter packs are procured as we cannot compromise the development of our communities and that of our youths. We therefore implore you to make the most of the equipment since all you require to run your small and medium-scale business has been provided including two years prepaid shop rent.”
