Lagos — A major tragedy was narrowly avoided last week at Nigeria’s biggest container terminal, A.P. Moller Terminal (APMT) in Apapa, after two separate accidents involving the company’s trucks.

Sources at the terminal said the first incident happened when a truck lost its brakes and crashed into a stack of containers, damaging several boxes.

Shortly after, another accident occurred when two A.P. Moller trucks collided within the terminal yard, causing panic among workers and port users.

Emergency and safety teams responded swiftly, preventing what could have been a fatal situation.

No injuries were reported, but the twin incidents have raised fresh concerns about vehicle maintenance and safety standards at the busy Lagos port.

Efforts to obtain comments from the Media Consultant to A.P. Moller Terminal, Mr. Bolaji Akinola, proved unsuccessful, as messages sent to his phone were neither acknowledged nor responded to.
