13 February 2013, Sweetcrude, Accra – US explorer Kosmos Energy is moving ahead with its 2013 work programme in Ghana, with drilling of the Sapele prospect set to be completed this quarter and a final development concept for its Deepwater Tano Block awaiting approval.
UK-listed partner Tullow Oil said on Tuesday the Sapele-1 exploration well, which was spud in December, was currently drilling ahead at about 3900 metres.
According to the company, the well encountered a high-quality water-bearing reservoir at the primary target and drilling was continuing to additional Turonian-aged reservoirs.
The well is expected to reach its total depth of about 4100 metres during this quarter, Tullow quoted Kosmos as saying in a statement.
Kosmos also submitted a declaration of commerciality and plan of development for the Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme, or TEN, discoveries off Ghana in the Deepwater Tano Block in November.
The company said the plan of development was for a โflexible and expandable development with an initial base capacity of 80,000 barrels of oil per day.โ
The final development concept remains subject to approval from the Ghana government.
Meanwhile, Kosmos reported that it had now relinquished the Banda discovery on the West Cape Three Points Block in Ghana.
โThe company does not consider this discovery to be commercially viable following additional seismic evaluation and interpretation,โ Kosmos stated.
