23 October 2014, Accra — TULLOW Ghana, the oil and gas producing company, is seeking government approval for further extension of its licence in order to flare adequate gas for the country.
General Manager, Charles Darku, confirmed that his company was seeking the government’s clearance which if successful would culminate in the company addressing gas shortage in the country.
He indicated that Tullow’s operating licence would expire at the end of October.
“We are doing limited flaring and we will seek an extension for it if gas export to shore is delayed,” Darku said.
The West African country, which of late been experiencing acute electricity, gas and oil shortages, is banking on the licence extension for its gas and oil exploration to prosper.
Although there was no immediate response from the government, the company indicated that when its licence gets extended, it would flare much gas to meet the need of the nation as well as exportation market.
To prove their commitment in flaring much gas in Ghana, Tullow managed 1.7 billion standard cubic feet of gas from Jubilee Oilfield in the months of June and September, a positive development that eased the country’s daily production of a about 100 000 barrels per day.
