19 June 2014, News Wires – North Dakota health officials revealed a pair of recent spill in the state and said they are working on remediation plans.
According to the North Dakota Department of Health, Denbury Resources reported a 2000-barrel spill of water used for enhanced oil recovery about eight miles south-west of Marmarth in Slope County.
The spill occurred as a result of a leak in the flow line, the Health Department said. The water “is higher in dissolved solids and minerals than fresh water”, it added.
“Most of the water has soaked into the soil and a dike will be constructed to control runoff,” the Health Department said, adding that it is working on an initial site assessment.
In a separate incident earlier this month, Kodiak Oil & Gas reported a spill of about 20 barrels of crude, produced water and fresh water about 12 miles south of Ray in Williams County.
The spill occurred as a result of a valve assembly failure.
“The spill impacted a dry intermittent stream; free liquid has been recovered and sorbent booms are in place in the stream bed,” the Health Department said.
A pair of oil spills were reported in the US’ number-two oil producing state in the first weeks of this month.
