Port Harcourt — Transcorp Group, the parent company of Trancorp Power Limited says it has increased generation capacity of Ughelli Power Plant from 160MW to 600MW.
The 972MW Ughelli Power Plant is a gas-fired thermal plant located in Ughelli, Delta State, and was acquired in 2013 by Transcorp Group at the sum of $300 million.
President of Transcorp Group, Mrs. Owen Omogiafo, speaking to newsmen recently in Afam, Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, said the company is targeting to be the leader in the power sector space and the entire power value chain.
Omogiafo also disclosed that it was the success of the investment in Ughelli power plant encouraged the Group to invest in Afam power plant.
She also noted that the major challenge facing the power sector was the issue of gas supply.
“All over the world, transformation is powered by power. Our first investment on power was Ughelli power plant in 2013, when we acquired it was 160MW but as we speak we are generating over 600MW and we are contributing very strongly to Nigeria’s power sector.
“And it is the success of that investment (in Ughelli power plant) that encouraged us to invest in Afam power plant despite the challenge of gas supply.”
