22 March 2013, Houston – A total of 1,746 rigs were drilling for oil and gas in the United States this week, down 30 from the previous week.
Data from Houston-based services giant Baker Hughes said both oil- and gas-directed rigs plunged. Oil rigs were down 17 to 1324. Gas rigs lost 13 for 418 after a surprising gain of 24 last week.
Texas was the big loser this week, shedding 11 rigs for a total of 827. Louisiana also took a big hit, losing five rigs for 109.
Arkansas was flat on 15. Mississippi lost one for 10. New Mexico was flat on 80.
Oklahoma lost four for 183. Kansas was flat on 24. Colorado shed one for a total of 56. Wyoming lost three for 43.
Utah ticked up one for a total of 30. Nevada was flat on three. North Dakota lost three for 174. Montana was flat on 11.
Pennsylvania lost six rigs for a total of 68. West Virginia added one for 22. Ohio also added one, for 28.
California was flat on 37. Alaska was down one for nine.
