31 December 2012 – The count of oil and gas rigs drilling in the US fell by 11 this week to 1763, the latest tally by Houston-based service firm Baker Hughes said Friday.
The count drilling for oil dropped by 13 to 1327, while the number drilling for gas gained by two to 431.
That compares to 1193 oil units and 809 gas units active a year ago.
Texas saw the largest change in rig count over the week, losing eight rigs to total 822.
California and Louisiana each dropped two rigs for totals of 30 and 103 respectively.
Alaska and West Virginia each gained one rig for totals of nine and 26.
