    US rig count falls by nine

    03 October 2014, News Wires – The number of oil and gas rigs drilling in the US fell by nine this week for a total of 1922, according to data from Houston-based services giant Baker Hughes.

    Gas rigs made up the bulk of the decline, with eight fewer than a week ago for a total of 330.

    There was one less oil-directed rig operating this week, leaving a total of 1591.

    The Cana-Woodford shale saw the biggest increase this week with four additional rigs and a total of 42. That is 13 more than a year ago.

    The Eagle Ford shale was up three rigs for a total of 210. The Permian basin was flat on 556.

    Texas as a whole lost two rigs for a total of 895. Oklahoma lost one for 212.

    New Mexico lost two for 99.

    West Virginia saw a bump in rigs with three additional units and a total of 30. Pennsylvania was flat on 57.

    The Marcellus shale gained two rigs for 82. The Utica lost one for 43.

    The Williston basin and North Dakota were both flat on 198 and 189, respectively.

    Alaska was down two rigs on nine. California gained one for 46.

    The US Gulf of Mexico count was flat on 59. Canada gained one rrig for 430.
